The three branches of government is an important concept to our students and their families for many different reasons. One of the benefits it has for students, is the understanding of their own agency as students. While learning about this topic students will not only engage with basic knowledge of our government but understand how these policies influence them as citizens. With students gaining this knowledge they will know more about major political events in the news but also the importance of their political participation. I also think that students will learn more about the nature of civil rights and how they progress in America. For example, the judicial branch recently overturned the case of Roe v. Wade in this past year. With students having accurate knowledge about the Supreme Court, it will allow them to formulate opinions on whether or not federal court cases have decreased or increased their social rights. For their families, this topic will help them communicate more as a family unit. When students have the opportunity to know what is going on, it will allow them to build meaningful connections with their family. I overall think the biggest takeaway is that students will learn about how to be civically engaged and how their government works on a national level.
